Early next year, STARZ will bring its signature original series, “Spartacus” to an end with “War of the Damned.”
For the next phase of STARZ original programming, the premium network has lined up “Da Vinci’s Demons” to debut next spring; presumably after “Spartacus” finishes up its run.
Created by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy), “Da Vinci’s Demons” re-envisions the original Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci (Tom Riley) for a new historical fantasy that promises to follow the “untold story of the world's greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence.”
The official description for the series calls Da Vinci “an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist” before adding “as a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, [Da Vinci] struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.“
From what little we know about “Da Vinci’s Demons,” it’s difficult to predict what the series will be like. However, STARZ has debuted the first extended teaser trailer for the series below; which offers up a few hints at action and some “Spartacus” style sex scenes.
The first season of “Da Vinci’s Demons” will run for eight episodes on STARZ. The premiere is expected to be in Spring 2013, but a specific date has yet to be announced.
