There’s another DC supervillain coming to “Arrow” this season.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that actor Andrew Dunbar has been signed to portray Firefly in the tenth episode of “Arrow’s” freshman season.

Created as a Batman villain in 1952 by France Herron and Dick Sprang, Firefly was originally conceived as a fallen special effects expert named Garfield Lynns; who uses his knowledge of fires to cover his robberies. However, Lynns’ growing pyromania eventually led him to begin setting fires for pleasure.

In “Arrow,” Lynns will be presented as a firefighter turned villain who is unable to mentally or physically recover from being badly burned years ago.

This continues the trend of “Arrow” using DC villains outside of Green Arrow’s rogue’s gallery. Of the villains featured so far, only China White is an actual Green Arrow villain. Deadshot began as a Batman villain and upcoming adversaries Deathstroke and the Royal Flush Gang are better known for taking on the Teen Titans and the Justice League, respectively.

Even Arrow’s forthcoming ally, the Huntress is primarily a Batman related character. This kind of leaves the impression that the creative team of “Arrow” doesn’t think that Green Arrow’s supporting cast or villains are impressive enough to stand on their own.

Before being cast in “Arrow,” Dunbar appeared in “Tower Prep,” Ghost Storm, “Stargate Universe and Battlestar Galactica: Razor.
