Who says you have to be a giant corporate conglomerate to get comic book movies made? Dark Horse Comics is an independent entity, and yet the Peter Lenkov story they published back in 2003 called R.I.P.D. will become a film next year starring Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Mary-Louise Parker and Kevin Bacon, to be released next year right around San Diego Comic-Con.
R.I.P.D. stands for Rest In Peace Department, a group of dead cops who work in divine law enforcement, from the mind of the guy who gave us the glory of Demolition Man – (incidentally, watch that linked trailer right there and look fro the San Diego Convention Center). Just in time for the film's release, Dark Horse is bringing us R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned, which sees print in late November. This chapter focuses on modern cop Nick Walker (Reynolds) and Old West lawman Roy Pulsipher (Bridges), the ghost-buddy cops trying to stop a mad specter from undoing all of creation – a spirit with whom Roy is quite familiar.
