World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, which is in its 27th season, begins tonight with a few big announcements.

First off, the official makeup sponsor of the event, Maybelline New York, is set to host spokesmodel and pink-haired "IT" girl Charlotte Free this evening for Fashion Week's opening night. Maybelline will showcase Free's talents in her Canadian catwalk debut for the Pink Tartan show at 8pm.

"I'm really excited to be walking for the first time at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto for Pink Tartan," said Free, spokesmodel for Maybelline New York, in an official press release. "I hear that Toronto has a lot of young talent and is quickly becoming one of the cities to watch on the international fashion scene. I'm also very happy that Maybelline New York will be there with me. I am so proud to be associated with such a cool, young brand that lets me be myself."

Added Kim Newport-Mimran, President and Head Designer of Pink Tartan, "As a designer, I am always on the lookout for what is fresh, new and invigorating. Charlotte Free brings these three key elements to the runway. The team at Maybelline New York was quick to recognize Charlotte's style, attitude and approach to fashion as the perfect complement to our S/S 2013 show. She is the ultimate face and muse for Pink Tartan this season."

Also, Fashion Week is going digital this year, allowing fashionistas who don't have tickets for the actual runway shows to log on to their computers and catch all of the action. Tonight's opening events include luxury retailer Holt Renfrew showcasing several homegrown designers, and Kimberley Newport-Mimran will present her womenswear label Pink Tartan. Pavoni will also showcase their new line.

World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto will run until Friday.
