The star A-league imports continued to shine in week three as Alessandro Del Piero and Emile Heskey both scored in wins for their respective clubs Sydney FC and the Newcastle Jets.

Del Piero and Heskey are two of the many big names to sign with A-League clubs in 2012 and their presence is attracting new fans and taking club football to unprecedented levels in Australia.

Italian superstar Del Piero scored the lone goal in Sydney’s 1-0 derby win over Western Sydney in front of nearly 20,000 fans.

Del Piero’s goal came from a penalty, but Wanderers goalkeeper Ante Covic managed to get a hand on the ball only to see it rebound directly to the $4 million dollar man who slotted it through easily.

Heskey scored for a second straight game as the former England international helped Newcastle to a 2-1 win against Central Coast Mariners.

The Jets first goal came in the fourth minute when Heskey was brought down in the box allowing Ryan Griffiths to finish off the penalty before Heskey was gifted a second goal in the 62st minute courtesy of a brilliant pass from James Virgili.

Last season’s runners-up, the Perth Glory, collected a nice 2-0 win against the Melbourne Heart on Sunday and now find themselves equal top of the table with Adelaide and Newcastle with six points from three games.

Dean Heffernan cleaned up when Melbourne failed to clear an uneventful corner in the 38th minute before Billy Mehmet sealed the deal with a handful of minutes remaining.

In contrast, the Glory home game was played in front of just seven and a half thousand fans.
