Early next year, “Defiance” is coming to Syfy and it will become the network’s first real science fiction series since the end of “Stargate Universe.”

Developed by “Farscape” creator Rockne S. O'Bannon and video game developer Trion Worlds, “Defiance” takes place in Earth’s future after the planet has been devastated and partially terraformed by the Votans, a collection of seven alien races who sought to make our world their new home.

When “Defiance” begins, an uneasy peace is in place as the humans and aliens must work together to survive on an increasingly hostile planet.

Syfy has released the first TV teaser trailer for “Defiance,” which gives us a brief glimpse of the lead character, Jeb Nolan (Grant Bowler), the chief Lawkeeper of the small town of Defiance, along with his adopted alien daughter, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) who serves as his deputy.

“Warehouse 13” veteran Jaime Murray also pops up in the teaser as Stahma Tarr, an alien woman married to an influential adviser named Datak (Tony Curran) who has an eye on gaining power for herself.

“Defiance” will premiere on Syfy in April 2013. A “Defiance” video game will be released by Trion around the same time as events in the TV series and the game will reportedly play off each other for a unique experience.
