Nintendo Considering Remaking ‘A Link to the Past’ or ‘Majora’s Mask’

Like a Highlander, there can be only one. But which do you choose?

According to recent interview with IGN, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto claims the company is trying to decide between remaking The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. They won’t do both, but the fact that they’re weighing both options sounds to us like we’ll be getting one or the other in just a matter of time.

"We haven't quite decided yet, whether we're going to do A Link to the Past, because there's also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora's Mask," Miyamoto said. "This is something we've certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we're going to go."

This should definitely excite Zelda fanatics. A Link to the Past is often regarded as one of, if not the best Zelda game ever made. Meanwhile, Majora’s Mask is considered the underappreciated gem of the franchise. A remake of either would be stellar news.

Now the question that remains: which system would the remake be for – the 3DS of Wii U? Most are quick to point to the 3DS since Ocarina of Time was remade for the system last year. However, Nintendo is looking to beef up the Wii U’s lineup, and a remake of either A Link to the Past or Majora’s Mask — hell, any Zelda game in general — would definitely help in accomplishing that.

But whichever system is chosen, the fact of the matter is two classic Zelda titles are being considered for remastering.  That should without a doubt put a big ol’ smile on diehard Zelda fans’ faces.

Lastly, and just for fun, this fan-made video hit the 'net just the other day and gives you a good idea of what a next-gen remake of Majora's Mask could look like. It's very creepy, but also very cool.
