Well, nobody ran it past us, but it seems Snow White and the Huntsman is destined to have a sequel. The fantasy epic that reimagined Snow White as a wilting flower who needed constant protection from her wicked, vanity-obsessed stepmother – which isn't much of a reimagining at all, when you think about it – has made over $122 million in the week since its release, so it was clearly inevitable.

Deadline reports that Universal Studios has signed David Koepp to pen the screenplay to Snow White and the Huntsman 2, or whatever it shall be called, and has offered the film's director, first-timer Rupert Sanders, the opportunity to return as well. Signing Koepp is a great sign of confidence for the studio. You don't get the writer of Spider-Man, Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible if you're not planning to turn the project into a priority.

The real question, of course, is what direction Snow White 2 can really go in. The end of the first film left a little room for the characters to grow, but pretty much resolved the whole "Snow White" fairy tale. Perhaps Kristen Stewart could travel the land killing all the other evil witches in the world, from Sleeping Beauty's wicked fairy to that octopus lady from The Little Mermaid. It could be like a female-centric Van Helsing and… oh wait, maybe that's not such a good idea. We'll leave this to the experts.

CraveOnline will be back with more Snow White 2 news, because someday our prince will come.
