Will Robert Pattinson Join the Hunger Games Sequel?

Lionsgate reportedly wants to cast the Twilight star in the next Suzanne Collins film, Catching Fire, but as who?

It's a sad truth that movie stars aren't what they used to be. Robert Pattinson, the heartthrob star of the ultra-successful Twilight movies, has a legion of adoring fans, to be sure, but so far they haven't supported him enough to make any of his other films – like Little Ashes, Remember Me and Water for Elephants – a success. Another successful franchise could be exactly what Pattinson needs, and Lionsgate looks ready to oblige. Lionsgate produces both the Twilight and the Hungers Games movies, and according to Total Film they're looking to cast Edward Cullen himself in Catching Fire, the sequel to this year's runaway success, The Hunger Games.

This should be taken strictly as a "rumor" for now, but the fact that Pattinson has worked with Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence before, on the period drama Water for Elephants, lends the story an air of credence. It would probably be a wise career move for Pattinson, who could likely use the success of The Hunger Games franchise more than Hunger Games could use him, since both franchises already share a target demographic.

Pattinson would reportedly play a character named Finnick Odair, a former Hunger Games champion he slew his enemies with a trident, and has since been seen with a variety of high profile lovers. All we know is that, if this story turns out to be true, one shot of Pattinson shirtless with a trident will drum up a lot of interest in an Aquaman movie.

Pattinson will next be seen in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, the Guy de Maupassant adaptation Bel Ami and the David Cronenberg drama Cosmopolis, which is currently making the rounds at Cannes.

CraveOnline will be back with more Catching Fire news after we bag a blaze.
