In a film project that has officially shot to the top of our "most anticipated" list, director Lynne Ramsay – whose last film, We Need to Talk About Kevin, was CraveOnline's pick for The Best Film of 2011 – and Black Swan star Natalie Portman have decided to join forces and make Jane Got a Gun, a western with a script by Brian Duffield, which made Hollywood's prestigious "Black List," which catalogues the best as-yet-unproduced screenplays, in 2011.
According to Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news from Cannes, Jane Got a Gun will star Portman as "a woman whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job."
Jane Got a Gun will be Lynne Ramsay's fourth feature film, after Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar and Kevin, and the first whose screenplay she has not written or co-written herself (unless she decides to take a crack at it, obviously). The western is one of only a handful of movies on Portman's plate. She's contractually obligated to appear in Thor 2, despite some unpleasantness, and will also appear in Terrence Malick's next two features, Lawless and Knight of Cups, opposite The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale.
CraveOnline will be back with more Jane Got a Gun news after we ask "What did her daddy do?"
