"What episode, sir?"

The Weinstein Company has released the first teaser for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, his first feature film since 2007's Academy Award-winning There Will Be Blood. Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Laura Dern, The Master tells the story of a man (Hoffman) who starts his own religion, called The Cause, after World War II, and the drifter (Phoenix) who joins the group but develops doubts about his new mentor. The film has long been rumored to be a metaphor for Scientology. The first teaser is exactly the kind of thing we've come to expect from Anderson: the unexpected.

The Master is due in theaters on October 12.
