If you live on the planet Earth, there's a really good chance that you've seen The Avengers already, most likely loved it (we did), and are dying for the sequel. Unfortunately, it's going to be a while, but Disney has already announced that Avengers 2 is coming, Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige personally told us that he'd want writer/director Joss Whedon to return. What does Joss Whedon want? Eh… He's not so sure yet.
In a recent interview with Hero Complex, Whedon discusses the film's parallels with his earlier TV work (fair questions) and also seriously mulls the possibility of returning, saying, "You know, I'm very torn," before adding, "It’s an enormous amount of work telling what is ultimately somebody else’s story, even though I feel like I did get to put myself into it. But at the same time, I have a bunch of ideas, and they all seem really cool."
It is impossibly hard to imagine someone other than Joss Whedon making The Avengers 2. Not that there aren't any other directors who could do it well, but there's a distinct reason why "Whedonesque" is a word. The writer/director's distinct storytelling and dialogue style is easy to mimic but hard to master, and with that tone set for the first film, it's just plain difficult to imagine anyone else continuing the franchise without making large and potentially distracting changes to the elements that made the first Avengers one of the biggest box office successes of all time.
Help us, Joss Whedon, you're our only hope.
CraveOnline will be back with more Avengers news after we find out how God really dresses.
