The final film in their comedy trilogy will be about booze and the fate of all mankind.

After years of speculation, the next collaboration between director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) is finally getting underway this September, under the title The World's End. The third film in the fabled Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy has long been expected to be a proper apocalyptic comedy – as opposed to Shaun of the Dead, which was merely about the "zombie" apocalypse – The World's End will find Pegg, Frost and a trio of other actors in an epic "pub crawl" that apparently finds them drinking to save all of mankind.

The logline, courtesy of Deadline, describes the film thusly: "20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries."

You've probably seen the first 2/3's of The Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy, even if you didn't know that's what it was. The comedy team of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost first came to fame with their cult favorite television series "Spaced," but when the time came to branch out into features, their first two films together – Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz – had one thing in common: the tasty ice cream treat cornettos. The films in the Three Flavors trilogy (named after Krzysztof Kieslowski's classic Three Colours Trilogy: Blue, White and Red) are each denoted by the specific flavor of Cornetto that is devoured in each one. Shaun of the Dead featured strawberry, Hot Fuzz featured classic blue, and The World's End is expected to feature the consumption of green mint chocolate chip.

The World's End has not yet been officially green lit by Universal, but is expected to because these guys are just so damned awesome.

CraveOnline will be back with more The World's End news after we make reservations at The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
