Secret Avengers #27 Preview: Captain Marvel Again?

It appears that Captain Mar-Vell may have returned from the dead again. And this time, he's probably not a Skrull.

Secret Avengers #27

It seems that every other event book brings us the return of Captain Marvel in some capacity, even though his heroic death story is usually considered the best thing the character's ever done. However, as we've seen from previews of an upcoming Captain Marvel series, once again, Mar-Vell might not be long for this world. Or universe, really.

The small band of heroic Avengers has journeyed into space to stop the Phoenix Force, although the Kree-influenced Noh-Varr The Protector and Ms. Marvel Carol Danvers seem to have the feeling that nothing should stop the Phoenix at all, and when this new Mar-Vell (clone? probably clone) made contact with them at the end of this week's issue, it would seem he's out to kill the Avengers. Oh, you Kree mad scientists, you.

Meanwhile, Captain Britain, Beast and Thor agonize over the fate of War Machine James Rhodes, who may just have given his life to try and stop the Phoenix Force from reaching Earth – where the Avengers are slap-fighting with the X-Men.
