Square Enix has today announced a new open-world cop drama set in Hong Kong called Sleeping Dogs, developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London and headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in the second half of 2012.
Some of you might remember a little game called True Crime: Hong Kong from a few years back. Well, this is it, coming back onto the scene with a spiffy new title and no connection to the troubled True Crime franchise. It’s honestly for the best.
Sleeping Dogs promises to offer complete player freedom in the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong as you set out on a journey to hunt down the Hong Kong Triads as undercover cop Wei Sehn. You’ll be able to explore the island as you see fit, with “very street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper becoming an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat.”
“From the moment you pick up the controller and experience the blend of driving, close combat and shooting you know you’re playing something fresh and a bit special,” said Lee Singleton, general manager of Square Enix London Studios. “Sleeping Dogs has one of the best melee combat systems out there – it’s super brutal with devastating takedown moves, and when added to UFG’s proven heritage in driving games, a first class story and the vibrant backdrop of the Hong Kong underworld we get a fiery recipe with fun written all over it.”
