Adhesive Games' Hawken has garnered a lot of attention since its debut. The title is a mech combat first-person shooter that utilizes Epic Games' Unreal engine to stunning results. Before moving on, if you haven't seen the title in action, take a look:

Are you excited now? Good, you should be.

Now, Adhesive Games has announced that Hawken will be made available December 12, 2012, for free. In an exclusive story with VentureBeat, Adhesive Games made official their surprising business model, under the company's Meteor Entertainment division, claiming that the success of Riot Games' popular League of Legends pushed them towards free to play.

And for the record, we aren't complaining. No sir.

While still a long ways out, you can try your luck at getting an early taste of Hawken through the game's beta. Head over to the game's official website to sign up now.

Come December, we'll have more mech action in our lives, and we'll be better people for it.
