WB Games announced today that their 2011 revival of the Mortal Kombat series will be shipping for PlayStation Vita in Spring 2012. Mortal Kombat, developed by NetherRealm Studios, is responsible for revitalizing a franchise we thought long past its prime, earning a spot on our top 10 games of 2011 list at number #8.

Mortal Kombat for PS Vita will carry over all the modes from its console brethren, along with a few new features that will be revealed in the coming months. NetherRealm is developing the PS Vita version of Mortal Kombat as an “experience designed specifically for on-the-go gaming.”

“The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011’s Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform.”
