Not that it's chock full of detail or anything, but Sony Pictures has finally given a plot synopsis of Skyfall, the 23rd official James Bond movie. Hollywood Reporter ran the announcement and linked itself to the first official picture from the production, an unusual production still that has more to do with Daniel Craig's plumber's crack than anything else. Click on over there if you really want to see it.
As for that plot synopsis, well, it reads as follows: "Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."
So… pretty much exactly what we heard before, when we learned – although it still hasn't officially been confirmed yet – that Ralph Fiennes will be playing a character who intends to replace Judi Dench as the head of MI-6. That said, we like the idea. Craig and Dench have crafted an unusual chemistry in their first two outings together. We get the impression that when Bond call's M "Ma'am" he really means "Mom." Their constant bickering belies legitimate trust between their characters. And basing a Bond film on the character is what brought the franchise back to greatness in the first place with Casino Royale.
That said, there's still been no mention of who the heck Javier Bardem is playing, or what the hell he's up to this whole time. Maybe he's a figure from M's past, or maybe he's just the supervillain du jour, and plans to destroy the world using a giant laser or something.
CraveOnline will be back with more Skyfall news after we say our vespers.
