Damned cool news for James Bond fans today from CES, as MGM and Fox announced that they'll be packaged all 22 canonical James Bond films together in high-definition for a massive Blu-Ray box set. We just received word from Twentieth Century Fox that the set will include 130 hours of bonus features, although it's unclear how many of those features are new or ported over from the previous special edition DVDs. An exact release date has not yet been set, but it's planned for this fall, obviously to coincide with the release of the 23rd film in the series, Skyfall, and the series' 50 year anniversary. Accordingly, the set will be called Bond 50.

The set will obviously not include the two James Bond films produced outside of the main franchise, Never Say Never Again and the original 1967 spoof version of Casino Royale, starring David Niven and Woody Allen. The inclusion of the 1954 live TV version of Casino Royale, which appeared on the series Climax!, is probably too much to hope for, but we've got our fingers crossed anyway. They managed to slip in some of the Star Wars Holiday Special on the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-Ray last year, after all.

Of the 22 official James Bond movies, only 13 have been released on Blu-Ray so far. The holdouts, which will make their high-definition debut in the new box set, are You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies. Weirdly, some of those films are among the most beloved or at least respected films in the franchise's 50 year history. Certainly you'd think that The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Goldeneye would have been out on Blu-Ray before The World is Not Enough or License to Kill, right?

CraveOnline will be back with more James Bond news after we stir this martini. No, wait! SHAKE IT!!!
