Activision has big plans for downloadable content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the company announced today. Starting January 24th for Call of Duty Elite subscribers, Activision will release a steady stream of monthly content for Modern Warfare 3 over the next nine months. The first DLC pack releasing on January 24th brings two new multiplayer maps to the title — "Liberation" and "Piazza."
The MW3 DLC “Season” kicks off!
With each subsequent month, more “content drops” will be made available for Modern Warfare 3, ranging from more multiplayer maps to Spec Ops maps to completely new games modes and more. This monthly content schedule will last until September 2012, providing more than 20 total “drops," with Xbox Live subscribers (with Elite accounts, mind you) getting first dibs while all other platforms (read also: PS3 and PC) will get the content at a later, undisclosed date.
As for casual Modern Warfare 3 players — you know, the folks not subscribed to Elite’s premium membership service — they’ll be able to purchase “Content Collections” starting in March. The first Content Collection contains the first three months’ worth of content drops.
Lastly, in celebration of the steady stream of fresh content being deploying throughout the year, Call of Duty Elite will be hosting frequent events and giving away real-world prizes from now-ish until September. More info on this to come later down the line.
