New downloadable content is inbound for Gears of War 3. Epic Games has announced the “Fenix Rising” DLC pack, introducing five new multiplayer maps, four new character skins and a new level progression system for high level players.

The new multiplayers maps being added are “Academy,” “Anvil,” “Depths,” “Escalation” and “The Slab.” Where character skins are concerned, you’ll get Recruit Clayton and Thrashball Cole on the COG side, while the Locusts get Savage Marauder and Savage Kantus.

Epic is also introducing a new “Re-Up” level progression system, not unlike Call of Duty’s “Prestige Mode.” When you hit max level you can choose to “Re-Up,” effectively wiping your stats but making you eligible to progress through the ranks again for more exclusive weapons and bonuses. You’ll be able to “Re-Up” at least three times, says Epic. Stupid name aside, this is a great way to keep players interested in the multiplayer side of the Gears 3 experience past max level.

The “Fenix Rising” DLC will be available on January 17, 2012 for 800 MS Points, or free if you’re a Season Pass owner.
