During the '80s, Eddie Murphy became an international superstar thanks in part to his role as Axel Foley in the original "Beverly Hills Cop" film and its two sequels. And although the actor seemingly wants nothing to do with fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" movie, he does have his own ideas about bringing Axel Foley back.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone (via The Hollywood Reporter), Murphy states "What I'm trying to do now is produce a ['Beverly Hills Cop'] TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."

Murphy also went on to address the long gestating scripts for the fourth film in the franchise.

"None of the movie scripts were right;" said Murphy. "It was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."

In the "Beverly Hills Cop" films, Axel Foley was a Detroit cop who came to California to avenge the murder of his friend while teaming up with two local police detectives,  Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton). Collectively, the films made over $700,000,000 worldwide and has enduring popularity to this day.

"Eddie does not go anywhere in the world where they're not like, 'Axel Foley, what's up?' more than 'Eddie Murphy,'" noted director Brett Ratner while speaking with MTV News. Ratner  was attached to direct the fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" film in 2008, however the project appears to be stalled. Despite that, Ratner added that “It is something that our hope and desire is to get it made."

Ratner is also the director of Murphy's latest film, "Tower Heist;" which will be released on Friday, October 28.
