Quentin Tarantino's new revisionist western Django Unchained has finally found its leading lady. In the upcoming film, Jamie Foxx plays a former slave who becomes a bounty hunter and searches far and wide for his still-suffering wife, who eventually ends up at the Leonardo DiCaprio's "Candyland" ranch, where slaves are pitted against each other gladiatorial combat. We've now learned that Mrs. Unchained will be played by none other than Kerry Washington.
Geeks will know Kerry Washington best as Alicia Masters in the ill-fated live-action Fantastic Four movies, and for her role as Princess Shuri in the hardly-seen Black Panther animated series. But she's had a long and impressive career spanning such films as Save The Last Dance, The Last King of Scotland and Ray, a film which earned her Django co-star Jamie Foxx an Academy Award for Best Actor. She also co-starred in the atrocious comedy Little Man, the trailer for which is below. (Sorry Kerry, we couldn't resist.)
That's okay, Kerry. Everybody gets one.
Deadline reports that Washington was actually Tarantino's first choice to play the role of Broomhilda in Django Unchained, but that he waited to make the final decision because he was also interested in searching for an unknown actress. But nobody, apparently, is as good as Kerry Washington.
CraveOnline will be back with more Django Unchained news after we enjoy the delightful comedic stylings of cartoonist Russell Myers. (You can look him up. We don't mind.)
