We finally know when Sony’s latest handheld hits the west.

Yesterday afternoon, Sony’s President and CEO, Jack Tretton, took to the PlayStation Blog to finally announce the launch date for the PlayStation Vita in North America, Canada, Latin America and Europe. That date is February 22, 2012.

The official launch date for the PS Vita was pegged during the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco (Really? Not a gaming con?). And while Japanese gamers will be able to play the Vita this December, we’re not jealous about having to wait a few extra months to get our hands on the device. Between now and next year we have plenty to play, maybe even more than we can handle. Sony is doing us a favor by holding onto this thing till early next year, after the flood of holiday gaming releases is over.

Finally, let's get some pricing details out onto the table. The Wi-Fi model of the Vita will run you $249.99, while the 3G-enabled model will be $299.99.

Now I pass the microphone to you, faithful readers. Are you interested in picking up a PS Vita when it launches? If not, why? Sound off in the comments below to make your voice heard.
