‘Portal: No Escape’ Director Lands Major Sci-Fi Movie

Dan Trachtenberg to direct Crime of the Century. Wow! This was a triumph!

We're making a note here: huge success for Dan Trachtenberg, the director of the mega-popular internet short film Portal: No Escape! He's parlayed that nifty little sci-fi film into a major feature film project called Crime of the Century, based on a pitch by Fast Five writer Chris Morgan. The good news? He'll be paid in cake. The bad news? Oh… you now the rest.

Deadline reports that the screenplay for Crime of the Century will be written by Dan Kunka, whose only previous credit is the John Cena action bonanza 12 Rounds. Don't hold that against him though. If you actually watched 12 Rounds you probably discovered much to your surprise that that particular Die Hard with a Vengeance riff is highly entertaining and pretty damned well written (for what it is, at least). No details on the plot of Crime of the Century, unfortunately, aside from the fact that it's a heist movie with a sci-fi angle. Who knows? Maybe they're trying to steal a whole century. That'd be pretty nifty, wouldn't it?

CraveOnline will be back with more Crime of the Century news once we figure out what the actual crime of the last century was. Screw O.J. Simpson, we're going with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. You?
