My god, I remember the first time I actually had a chance to play Daytona USA at home on my brand-spankin' new Sega Saturn. It was a launch title for the console, and I spent days upon days between hitting the track on that game and shooting at bad guys in Virtua Cop (I'll never forget you…).
Now, Sega has announced that they are bringing Daytona USA to today's consoles. The remake will be heading to both the Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network on October 26th and 25th respectively. It will sell for 800 Points on the XBLA or $9.99 on the PSN
Sega bulleted exactly what to expect with this new remake in the press release announcing the news:
The re-release of Daytona® USA features:
- Fresh Oil and a New Coat of Paint: Experience the classic retro graphics of the original arcade hit in an enhanced,16:9 widescreen format
- Let’s Go Away: Relive your glory days of racing to the sounds of the original Daytona® USA soundtrack, also available in Karaoke Mode (admit it, you know you have been singing along anyway)
- Pedal to the Metal: Drive like a pro with included support for the Logitech GT Driving Force steering wheel controller on PS3™, and all Xbox 360-supported steering wheel controllers
- Reach the Winner’s Circle: Challenge AI opponents in Arcade Mode, race the clock in Survival and Time Trial Modes, and trade paint with up to eight players in online multiplayer to place on the worldwide leaderboard
You read that right, folks, this game is getting its own Karaoke Mode…god help us.
With Crazy Taxi, a recent remake from Sega, we felt a bit under-whelmed. The game played like a straight port with very little extras added to the package. Daytona USA, what with the new multiplayer mode and steering wheel support, seems like it may be a much better refresh.
Nerds looking to dive back into one of their more familiar racing adventures can do so at the end of this month. We'll be there.
