Is the Next James Bond Movie Called ‘Skyfall?’

What's the matter, James? Are you feeling a little... chicken?

One of the most frustrating things about the reporting on the upcoming James Bond film has been calling it 'Bond 23' this whole time. That may finally be about the change: reports have come in through What Culture, via Collider, that Sony has secured domain names for a series of websites including words like "James Bond," "Film" and… "Skyfall."

Now this isn't an official confirmation that Skyfall is the official title. Who knows? It could be an upcoming videogame a la Bloodstone or something. But domain names like "" and "" certainly make it seem like a likely title for the next Bond picture, which we remind you is being directed by American Beauty helmer Sam Mendes, so even if Skyfall sounds a little wonky to you, remember that we're still in pretty good hands.

The James Bond titles tend to fall into three categories: 1) Spy-Related (For Your Eyes Only, Licence to Kill), 2) Arbitrary (Quantum of Solace, Live and Let Die), and 3) One-Word Titles That Only Make Sense If You Know the Story (Goldfinger, Moonraker, GoldenEye, Octopussy, Thunderball). So if Skyfall really is the name of the latest James Bond movie, at least there's a precedent for it.

There doesn't seem to be much poetry to it, though. Skyfall could just as easily have been the title of Battle: Los Angeles or Armageddon or even Drop Zone. Compare that to Octopussy, which could only really be the title of Octopussy or shokushu goukan movies. If this story pans out, we guess we'll have to wait and see if it grows on us.

CraveOnline will be back with more Bond 23 news if we can just get anyone to believe us about this "sky is falling" business.
