Game Informer steps up again with another brand new, exclusive reveal. This time around it’s Dishonored, a first-person, stealth shooter being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda.
The reveal serves as a tease for the actual August issue itself, so details included in the post itself are light. Game Informer breaks down some of who is behind the project and why these names should work to get you excited.
Arkane Studios and founder Raf Colantonio have made memorable games in the past (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic) that ultimately suffered from a lack of publisher support.Bethesda Softworks believes in their vision and is giving them all the time, money, and development help (regular meetings with guys like The Elder Scrolls' Todd Howard don't make your game worse) they need. Harvey Smith, one of the main minds behind the first two Deus Ex games and a legendary veteran of game development, shares the vision and is on board as Dishonored's co-creative director along with Colantonio. Viktor Antonov designed Half-Life 2's iconic City 17 and is lending his talents to Dishonored's world. This is a perfect storm for creating a game that shatters the mold that first-person action games have built for themselves in the mainstream.
Looking at the cover art for the issue of Game Informer by itself actually screams Half-Life 2’s City 17. Between Antonov’s design potential and Smith’s history with Deus Ex, Dishonored already has the pedigree of a twisted, beautiful, choice-driven game.
Game Informer insists that what they’ve played and seen of the game so far confirms the open-ended nature of the title. They run through a barrage of opposite choices given specific situations and suggest that the choice is up to players. That’s certainly a hallmark of Smith’s work on Deus Ex.
Dishonored was revealed only today. We’ll have more on the title as it comes.
