The iOS platforms (the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad) will soon be seeing a new game from the crazy minds at Twisted Pixel. That's the company responsible for the runaway indie hit 'Splosion Man as well as the upcoming Ms. 'Splosion Man and The Gunstringer. Things on your iPhone are bound to get really zany really quickly.
Twisted Pixel CEO Mike Wilford told Touch Arcade that the inspiration for taking a turn on the iOS platform came from a ridiculous move by Capcom several months back. Capcom released MaXplosion, a game that's a little too much like 'Splosion Man for comfort, dropped in January for Apple's mobile OS. The folks at Twisted Pixel expressed frustration and sickness upon seeing the basically blatant copy in action, especially since the team supposedly pitched 'Splosion Man to Capcom well before this title's release.
Wilford explained that "fiasco" as being a source of their decision to move forward with iOS development:
"We’ve never done a mobile game before. I think a lot of our IPs would translate pretty well to mobile. I think there’s a lot of fun stuff you can do with the character-driven IPs we’ve created. And the Capcom fiasco — if you want to call it that — lit a fire under our butts to give [iOS development] a try and see if we can make something there…"
Well, thanks Capcom. Sure, there's a chance you could have rejected a great game once and then used the idea to make your own iteration for profit. And, yes, that's pretty damn brutal and crooked if you did do it… If you didn't, well, sorry for the misunderstanding. It's easy to fall in love with the indie studios when they stand next to big companies.
That said, we thank you for inadvertently getting Twisted Pixel involved in the iOS platform. We love it.
