On Saturday, June 18th, Katie Spotz and Sam Williams began the Ride4Water race — a non-stop, cross-country bike race from California to Maryland to help raise money for Blue Planet, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing safe drinking water to those without.  They’ll aim to bike 3000 miles in less than eight days — that’s 1.3 times as long as the Tour de France and in one-sixth the time. Levi's is supporting Katie's ride and donating an additional $1 for each tweet including the #Ride4Water hashtag for up to $5,000 beyond the initial sponsorship. As if things weren't tough enough, Katie fractured her pelvis less than a week ago and is still attempting the ride, now on a hand bike.

Katie Spotz has tackled some very impressive endurance challenges to date. She rowed across the Atlantic by herself – 3,000 miles alone at sea for 70 days – to raise $100,000 for Blue Planet and ran 150 miles across the Mojave and Colorado Desert (solo and self-supported).  Check out the video!

As you can see, their trip got off to a rocky start.

Be sure to visit the Ride4Water site for live video updates and GPS tracking as they ride!
