Watch MGS: Peace Walker Running on PS3

… Played by someone who clearly has never played a Metal Gear game.

Konami and Kojima Productions have released the first video footage of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker running on a PlayStation 3. The PSP classic is due to release on the PS3 later this year as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, a compilation that includes Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The below video looks promising from a visual/graphical standpoint. It seems Kojima and company have done a wonderful job incorporating new art assets to make the menus of Peace Walker pop now that the game will be running in HD on the PS3.

However, once the actual gameplay footage kicks in, what’s the deal with the person playing? You would think for the first gameplay footage shown you would want someone who knows what they’re doing behind the steering wheel. Instead, what we get is comparable to watching a video of a student driver’s first driving experience. It’s a poor display of pretty much every mechanic of the Metal Gear Solid franchise — failing to sneak around, poor targeting with a pistol and even worse close-quarters combat action. Snake, this person is not.

I’m just going to put this out there, but I hope this isn’t an early indicator of how Peace Walker doesn’t translate well to the PS3. I’m praying that the PS3’s DualShock controller makes controlling Snake a lot easier than it was on the PSP. But this trailer has me a little worried. With that said, I’m staying optimistic. I truthfully can’t wait until the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection ships later this year. I just hope the ride is a lot smoother than this first trailer makes it out to be.
