THQ has announced that they will be closing the doors to two of their internal studios today. One of the studios is THQ Digital Warrington in the UK, while the other is Homefront developer Kaos Studios, based out of New York. THQ has issued a press statement regarding the shutdowns, which I have selected some choice quotes from for pasting below. The move is said to be a “strategic realignment” for THQ.
“THQ confirmed today that it has made a strategic realignment within its internal studio structure and is in the process of closing two locations: the company’s UK studio and KAOS studio in New York. Both studios’ employees have been informed.
“THQ continues its strategy of aligning the best industry talent with the company’s marquee franchises. The Montreal studio will take over product development and overall creative management for the Homefront franchise. The Montreal studio actively collaborated with KAOS on Homefront.
It has been made clear by THQ that they plan to continue the Homefront franchise with future sequels. The original game did less than favorably with critics, yet still managed to sell like gangbusters. Hopefully THQ Montreal can turn the franchise around to be more than just a Call of Duty knockoff.
