The Spec Ops mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was brilliant. The concept of dealing killing blows in explicit missions with friends added a ton of longevity to the second in the MW line. Infinity Ward crafted a great, unique multiplayer mode.
It seems they and Sledgehammer, the other major studio working on Modern Warfare 3, recognized the simplistic genius within Spec Ops mode and decided to flesh it out for the next title in this military shooter line.
The new Spec Ops mode will feature leaderboards, a ranking system and a matchmaking system. Creative Strategist Robert Bowling explains the decision to flesh this feature out:
"All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer…"
