The filmmaking team of Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman, who previously teamed up for Being John Malkovich and Adaptation are at it again: True Grit producer Megan Ellison is acquiring an as-yet-untitled political satire from the duo, whose previous efforts earned a combined seven Oscar nominations and one win for Best Supporting Actor, for Chris Cooper’s performance in Adaptation. Since adaptation the quirky director and screenwriter had parted ways, with Jonze helming the family film Where The Wild Things Are and Kaufman writing and directing Synecdoche, New York and winning an Academy Award for his original screenplay to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind along with co-writer/director Michel Gondry. Deadline had the story.
The new film is a comedy about world leaders gathering to make sweeping decisions for the entire world, such as the price of oil and which wars will be waged and so on. Sounds like the proverbial "They" you keep hearing about. "That’s just what ‘They’ want us to think." If They wasn’t already a forgettable horror movie from 1992 we’d think it’s a perfect title. Instead we offer this alternative: "I Knew It!"
Crave Online will be back with more information about this exciting new collaboration if they ever tell us more about it.
