Wonder Woman has found her nemesis.
Earlier today, actress Elizabeth Hurley tweeted "Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot ‘Wonder Woman.’ I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait." However, TVLine is reporting that "some outstanding visa issues" need to be dealt with before the deal becomes official.
If everything goes through, Hurley will be portraying Veronica Cale, a villainess created by Greg Rucca in 2003 to be the Lex Luthor of Wonder Woman’s life. Cale is a scientist and the co-founder of a pharmaceutical company who comes to resent Wonder Woman and later tries to turn the media against her. Cale most recently appeared in the 52 Aftermath: The Four Horsemen miniseries.
Bleeding Cool recently ran a script review of the "Wonder Woman" pilot (which we discussed at length on The Idiot Box). In the script, Cale is described as "[A] beautiful, highly-educated, highly-accomplished,she runs one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country… but she’s afflicted with deep-seated Wonder Woman-envy. Whatever she is or will be in life… she’ll never be her. And it causes her innards to rot."
Hurley is primarily known for starring in films like "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," "Bedazzled," "EDtv," "Dangerous Ground" and "Permanent Midnight." Her "Wonder Woman" appearance is currently listed as a one-time deal, but it could become a recurring role if the series is picked up/
Adrianne Palicki ("Friday Night Lights") is already signed on to play Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, with further castings expected to be announced soon. David E. Kelley wrote the pilot episode, which will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner ("The Event").
