You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry, you’d better not pout, I’m telling you why… Because sequels are back, baby! We never thought we’d get excited about putting a number on the end of old classic titles, but after a long string of remake announcements the notion of actually continuing a story as opposed to retelling it almost qualifies as ‘artsy.’ With Taken 2, Daredevil 2 and American Reunion all on the way, why not another heaping spoonful of Bad Santa while we’re at it?
Yes, Billy Bob Thornton – who hasn’t been in a major release since 2008’s (awful) Eagle Eye, revealed at a recent SXSW panel that The Weinstein Company is putting together Bad Santa 2. (They can’t just call it Badder Santa, since that title was used for the extended cut of the DVD. Hmm… Bad Santa with a Vengeance?) A spokeperson for The Weinstein Company told The Wrap: "We feel that it’s a Christmas perennial for the R-rated crowd… Everyone loves the character and Billy Bob’s excited to be in talks with us."
This isn’t the only trip back to the ol’ well for The Weinstein Company: they’re currently trying to put together sequels to Swingers (huh?) and Rounders (quadruple huh?) Okay, now we’re skeptical again. What’s next? Life is Beautiful-er?
Crave Online will be back with more Bad Santa news as it unloads its sack.
