Near the end of December, rumors began circling that director Joss Whedon was looking to add another female hero to "The Avengers." And while the identity of the heroine in question is still unconfirmed, a new report suggests that it will be The Wasp as well as her husband (and fellow founding Avenger) Ant Man!
The latest issue of Production Weekly features an update on "The Avengers" and listed both characters among the group of heroes:
"When Captain America is awakened from an icy prison, the Avengers go into action. Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Wasp, Ant-Man and Thor (Chris Hemsworth)."
While that’s far from an official confirmation, it’s the first real indication that Hank and Janet Pym may appear in the film. It’s also worth noting that Don Cheadle is listed as appearing in the film as well. And Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow isn’t listed in the lineup of the Avengers although the actress is slated to reprise her role from "Iron Man 2."
Earlier this week, "Scott Pilgrim VS. The World" director Edgar Wright told The Los Angeles Times that he was finally resuming work on the "Ant-Man" movie script after nearly two years away from the project.
"[‘Ant-man’ is] not about about the urgency of summer tentpoles and things going into production without a script," said Wright. "It’s slightly different than that."
However, if "Ant-Man" moves forward with Wright, it won’t be until after "The Avengers" is released. Whedon will reportedly assemble his Avengers in April to begin filming, which is expected to last until September.
"The Avengers" will hit theaters on May 04, 2012.
