No Rest For The Nerdy - Vol. 3

We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we’re playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn’t new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that?  So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…

erik_blurbErik Norris: Thanks to Best Buy I have quite a few games on the docket for this weekend. For starters, I picked up Darksiders on Alex’s recommendation. Thus far, it’s pretty badass. Imagine what a hardcore, dark Legend of Zelda would be like; that’s Darksiders.

I also have a lot more Mass Effect 2 on PS3 to play. I’m absolutely loving going back through the game. I’m reminded every second why I originally loved it so much. I’m hoping to get my swerve on with an alien this playthrough. Fingers crossed?

Finally, I have intentions of starting LittleBigPlanet 2 this weekend. Joey has grandiose level design plans that he needs my help with. When he described them to me he sounded like a 4-year old who was overly excited for something he couldn’t even put into words. Should be a good time seeing where this leads…

alex_blurbAlex Keen: Like Erik, I’ll be playing some more Darksiders this weekend.  I’m over 15 hours in and it definitely has to be nearing the end. Which will of course make me sad until THQ announces an eventual sequel.

For some reason I turned on my Wii today and “played” a bit of Wii Fit.  Sure, since that game has come out, 18 billion other fitness games have eclipsed it.  Hell, the Kinect can recreate my flab fat flaps as they slap me across my face.  I’d rather run in place for 20 minutes while watching a bunch of pixels bark and glare at me.  I keep it real.

Finally, since my Wii is on, I’ve decided to spend several hours reliving the awesomeness that is Check Mii Out.  Nothing shouts the cusp of gaming like delving in a Wii channel that 99% of the planet has either never played or completely forgotten.  Perhaps I’ll find a life-like recreation of an Emperor Penguin to stare at as I jog in place. Sigh.

mike_blurbMike White: I will be leveling my poor neglected Death Knight; Vuvuzella. Yes, it’s named Vuvuzella. The original name for the character referenced sexual orientation and after almost 2 years of playing, suddenly it “broke” the terms of service. It was during the World Cup and Horn of Winter makes a buzzing horn noise when I cast it. Vuvuzella. No judging.

After that I’ll be going over to Joey’s house to help him recreate his disturbing fire-breathing Unicorn dreams through LittleBigPlanet 2.

joey_blurbJoey Davidson: Double-whammy weekend for me. LittleBigPlanet 2 with Michael, as described above (dude, I told you, pegasuses), and CoD:BlOps with an old friend. Black Ops is actually seeing a little rebirth in my house as the winter months wear on.

I assume a lot of my lasting love for this new CoD is born out of the fact that the balancing is so much better than it was on MW2. I’m not getting frustrated with streaks and weapons anymore. Now if they could just fix the god damn spawning issues, this would jump to being one of my favorite shooters ever.

If I get up the free time, I may actually be heading over to my local game store to snag a copy of Darksiders. Erik and Alex have convinced me it’s worth the fractioned cost.
