Tyler Perry may be most famous for cross-dressing, but now he’s going to dress as Alex Cross in Rob Cohen’s upcoming adaptation of James Patterson’s novel I, Alex Cross for Lionsgate. We’re a little cross ourselves: up until a few weeks ago, the great and talented Idris Elba (from HBO’s The Wire) had locked down Morgan Freeman’s old role in the upcoming franchise reboot. No word on why the sudden change, although Perry’s been very good to Lionsgate in the past, bringing his large cult following to films like Why Did I Get Married? and Madea Goes to Jail.
James Patterson’s series told the story of homicide detective and psychologist Alex Cross, who solves mysteries of a murderous nature. Two of Cross’s previous adventures – Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider – had been previously adapted into features with Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman in the lead. Deadline reports that the new franchise reboot is being planned as a possible trilogy.
