November Music Guide: New Albums To Watch For This Month

Your go-to guide for new music releases hitting stores November 2012!

Johnny Firecloudby Johnny Firecloud

With the cold weather settling in and the post-Halloween cavities digging in deep, November's new music releases provide that crucial sonic bridge between the fun of Summertime (which never really ended until theat crazy hurricane rolled through) and the freezing Winter months. It's a good thing for us, then, that the release schedule is packed with goods, from Soundgarden's first album in 15 years to a new Rolling Stones collection, a Sufjan Stevens holiday record, Trent Reznor's latest project and more!

Check out our full November Release Guide below, and get your pre-order on!

Aerosmith – Music From Another Dimension

Release Date: Nov. 6

Aerosmith's 15th studio album is their first to feature all-new material in over a decade, and while the formula will still work with the distracted middle there is very little ground to be gained among fans who have simply moved on, tired of frontman Steven Tyler's hammy schtick. The machine is still chugging along, but first single "Lover Alot" provides a very good reason why the hype has died:

Brian Eno– LUX

Release Date: Nov. 13

LUX is Brian Eno's first solo album on Warp Records and his first solo album since 2005's Another Day On Earth. According to its press release, LUX is “one of Eno’s most ambitious works to date” spanning 76 minutes over 12 sections that evolved from artwork “housed in the Great Gallery of the Palace of Venaria in Turin, Italy.”

Soundgarden – King Animal

Release Date: Nov. 13

Soundgarden return with their first album of new material in 15 years, since 1996's Down On The Upside, and expectations are as high as the anticipation.

The rollicking first single sounds like the band has been listening to AC/DC quite a bit, but clips of other tracks on the record give a more promising preview of what's to come.

Pre-order King Animal via iTunes.

The Rolling Stones – GRRR!

Release Date: Nov. 13

The Stones are adding to their already-massive pile of compilations and greatest-hits packages with another retrospective called GRRR! The 3 CD, 50 track collection features some of the Stones' finest work, from their high octane version of Chuck Berry’s “Come On”, their first single issued in June 1963, to the chart-toppers “The Last Time”, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “Get Off Of My Cloud”, “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Honky Tonk Women” and the perennial juke-box and concert favourites “Brown Sugar”, “Tumbling Dice”, “Miss You” and “Start Me Up”. Also included are “Doom And Gloom” and “One More Shot”, two new studio recordings recently completed by the group in Paris, France in August 2012.

How To Destroy Angels – An Omen

Release Date: Nov. 13

An Omen EP is the second official release from the covert project How To Destroy Angels consisting of Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor, his wife and former West Indian singer Mariqueen Maandig, and frequent collaborator and Oscar-winning Social Network cohort Atticus Ross. It aint Nine Inch Nails, but it'll have to do for now.

Isis – Temporal

Release Date: Nov. 13

Isis is set to release a double-disc rarities collection called Temporal and it is set to feature 14 songs spread over two compact discs. The set will also feature a DVD with five official music videos.

Temporal spans the groundbreaking band’s entire discography with inclusions from Mosquito Control to the band’s final full-length album, Wavering Radiant.  “It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release,” commented frontman Aaron Harris.  “I hear our catalogue differently now that I’m not living with these songs day to day.  This is a special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about.”

Green Day – Dos!

Release Date: Nov. 13

Sure, Green Day’s new album, ¡Uno! just came out, and their singer's dealing with a bout of rehab, but the guys are already setting their sights on their next album, ¡Dos! The release — the second in Green Day’s ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy — will arrive on Nov. 13. The pop-punk trio has cancelled their appearances for the rest of the year, which will make promotion of the new album difficult – but the music will arrive all the same.

Sufjan Stevens – Silver & Gold

Release Date: Nov. 13

The prolific indie folk singer/songwriter's first solo project since 2010 will combine volumes six through ten of Sufjan’s Songs for Christmas series. The five-EP box set (a first of which was released in 2006), is due out November 13 via Sufjan’s own Asthmatic Kitty, which will include stickers, temporary tattoos, an ornament, a poster, lyric sheets, chord charts, photographs, liner notes and a coloring book. Listen to a new track from the set, “Christmas Unicorn” (yes, that’s a Joy Division cover at the end) below:

Bad Brains – Into The Future

Release Date: Nov. 20

Bad Brains return this month with the follow up to Build a Nation, which ended a 12-year hiatus for the legendary hardcore band. When your heroes are freaking out about a band, you best believe they're damn well worth checking out.
