Singer of the holy god get it out of my head hit song "Call Me Maybe," Carly Rae Jepsen, has been named the Rising Star of 2012 by Billboard.

“As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honoured to be recognized by Billboard with this award," Jepsen said in a statement. "I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.”

Jepsen will be honoured at Billboard’s annual Women in Music event, which will be held in New York City on November 30th. They will also award singer Katy Perry with Woman of the Year.

Jepsen, who hails from Mission, British Columbia, placed third on the hit reality show "Canadian Idol" and was signed by a record label shortly thereafter. She released her first album "Tug of War" in 2008, and three years later, her hit song "Call Me Maybe" hit airwaves, taking the world by storm and enjoying a number of popular spoofs (including one by Cookie Monster that went viral and received millions of hits on YouTube). Her latest project, the studio album "Kiss," came out this past September, and she was also the opening act for Justin Bieber's 2012 Believe Tour.

Past winners of Billboard's Rising Star include the eccentric Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga.
