Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has long been known for his love for pro wrestling, so it's not too far beyond the reach of reason that Corgan would finally take his non-musical fixation to a whole new level and start his own wrestling company. He has, and it's real, and it's called Resistance Pro Wrestling.
Speaking to Fox News in Chicago, Corgan announced the creation of his company. "I've been involved sort of behind the scenes with pro wrestling for about a decade and made a lot of friends in the business," Billy told Fox News Chicago this week, "It's a very insular business and it's a long story, but I essentially got involved with some brothers who had a wrestling promotion. We decided to form our own promotion and we're going to try to bring back to the glory days."
So basically, when you're not seeing Billy onstage or hearing about his final tinkering on the Pumpkins' new album Oceania, you can rest assured he’ll be writing all of the insane soap-opera storyline scenarios and stage tactics for a bunch of grown men in spandex costumes.
Resistance Pro Wrestling is set to have its first major Black Friday event in Corgan’s hometown of Chicago on Friday November 25th. The league already has an impressive roster of talent including former WWE Tag Team Champion David Hart Smith, Necro Butcher (who you may remember from the Mickey Rourke film The Wrestler) and former two-time ECW Heavyweight champion Raven.
