The 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards were handed out on Sunday, and with an all-star line-up including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, The Black Keys, and co-host Selena Gomez, it became the most-watched broadcast in MuchMusic history.
“There is no party on the planet like the MMVAs, and the 2011 MMVAs took the party to a whole new level,” said Sheila Sullivan, Executive Producer of the Awards, in an official press release. “The audience at MuchMusic HQ in Toronto took part in a truly special, live experience, but it’s the viewers across Canada who have proved that MuchMusic delivers the ultimate in fan access – whether on TV, or online or in person, Canadians got up-close-and-personal with the Canadian video music scene in a biggest and best way possible.”
A few of the winners included: Shawn Desman for Video of the Year, Justin Bieber featuring Usher won for UR Fave Artist, UR Fave Video went to Fefe Dobson, and International Video of the Year – Artist went to the eccentric Lady Gaga.
It was a record-setting evening – fans showed up in unprecedented numbers via social media, adding more than 20,000 new "Likes" to MuchMusic’s Facebook page during the two hour broadcast, pushing MuchMusic’s total number of Likes to more than 845,000. On Twitter, 42,424 MMVAs-related tweets resulted in four of the Top 10 trending topics worldwide on Sunday between 8 and 11pm ET.
