We announced a slew of tours hitting Canada this summer, however the news of this biggie only came out after we published it – Pearl Jam is celebrating their 20th anniversary with ten Canadian shows on their upcoming tour.
The news spread like wildfire as the American band released dates for their Anniversary Tour, which kicks off in Montreal on September 7th. Other Canadian stops include Toronto (for two shows), Ottawa, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
Guest musicians who will also make appearances during the tour include Glen Hansard and Liam Finn. Pearl Jam will host and headline a Labour Day weekend concert at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin before kicking off their Canadian tour.
Pearl Jam was formed back in 1990 and have since released nine studio albums, the most recent being Backspacer in '09. They have sold 60 million albums across the globe in the course of their 20 years and have been honoured with a number of awards, including five American Music Awards as well as a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in '96. This year they will be releasing a book with a forward written by Cameron Crowe, who is also directing a flick about the band entitled "Pearl Jam Twenty."
According to The Vancouver Sun, tickets for all Canadian dates go on sale Friday, May 27, except for Montreal, where tickets go on sale May 28. Pearl Jam Ten Club members will have access to a pre-sale starting May 24 at www.pearljam.com.
