50 Cent is set to team up with Robert De Niro on the big screen for the second time. Back in 2008, 50 Cent and Robert De Niro shared screen time in the crime drama Righteous Kill. This year, the two will meet in yet another cop drama: Freelancers.
50 Cent will star as a son of a slain cop who follows in his father’s policeman footsteps. He’s taken under the wing of his father’s former partner, Captain Vic Sarcone (De Niro) and joins the captain’s Street Vice Crime Task Force, a team of reprobate cops turned vigilantes.
Work begins on the film in mid-April in New Orleans, and Forest Whitaker is reportedly in talks for a role. Let’s not get too excited about the film, however, as rookie writer L. Philippe Casseus and Soul Plane director Jessy Terror are spearheading the production.
50 has previously expressed plans to expand his empire through film. Last October, he announced that he had secured $200 million in funding for ten films through a deal with Cheetah Vision Films and Hedge Fund Film Partners.
The first of those films, Set Up, will pit 50 alongside Takers star Paul Walker.
