Bio

Elizabeth Anne Caplan was born in Los Angerles, California on June 30, 1982. "Lizzy" grew up the youngest in a Reform Jewish family that consisted of her parents and two older siblings (a brother and a sister). She attended Alexander Hamilton High School and was a part of their prestigious Academy of Music. Initially, she studied piano, but eventually found her way to the performance arts. Before she graduated the school in 2000, she starred in several plays including "Much Ado About Nothing" and "You Can't Take It with You," which encouraged her to branch out into the world of television and film acting.

Lizzy got her start in the acting business with a small recurring role on the cult classic series "Freaks and Geeks." She continued to land small roles on shows like "Once and Again" and "Smallville" before being cast as one of the leads on the FOX series "The Pitts," which was co-produced by Seth MacFarlane and Mike Scully. Unfortunately for Lizzy, this would be the first in a number of series she would be cast in to get cancelled. Those other series include "Tru Calling," "Related," and "The Class."

Although she did end up playing a role in the film "Mean Girls" in between her cancelled TV shows, it wasn't until 2008 that Lizzy caught her first big break when she was cast as Marlena in the J.J. Abrams blockbuster "Cloverfield." This put her on the map, and lead to other major roles in the film "My Best Friend's Girl" and the HBO series "True Blood." In 2009, Lizzy was cast in probably her most famous role to date on the Starz comedy series "Party Down." The next year, she played April in the sci-fi comedy hit "Hot Tub Time Machine."

Of late, Lizzy continues to shine on the big and small screen alike. She starred in back-to-back wedding related films "Bachelorette" and "Save the Date in 2012," as well as guested on series "Mr. Sunshine" and "New Girl." On September 29th, 2013, you can catch her in the role as half of the human sexuality pioneer team Masters and Johnson on the Showtime original series "Masters of Sex."
