Bio

Never take raising your hand to participate faster than everyone else too lightly. For Lacy Schnoor, the American freestyle skier who wound up becoming an Olympic-level freestyle skier, it's what separated her from the pack and put her on the fast track to the top. But we are getting ahead of ourselves here. Let's start at the beginning first.

Lacy Schnoor was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 12, 1985. While she is now considered one of the best freestyle aerial skiers to participate in the sport, she actually started out as a gymnast. However, fortune would soon be in her favor when the Sandy, Utah middle school she attended took part in an Olympic outreach program that consisted of various winter sports stations being set up throughout the gymnasium. Students were then allowed to travel from station to station and test them out. When it came time for a bungee exercise that stimulated aerial maneuvers to be set up, there was only time for one student to test it out before it had to be taken down. As luck would have it, Lacy was the first to raise her hand, and the rest is hisory. Olympic history, that is.

Of course, just because she was a gymnast in the past, this did not mean that Lacy had no experience in skiing. In fact, she had actually done it recreationally since she was six years old. So once she was recruited over from gymnastics to aerial freestyle skiing, she was more than ready.

After beginning her professional career in 2002, it only took Lacy three years before she was the aerials national champion. Some of her biggest accomplishments in the sport prior to her induction into the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver included finishing seventh at the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro, Japan, and eighth at 2007's World Cup in Apex, British Columbia. In the end, Lacy finished ninth overall at the 2010 Winter Olympics, retiring from the US Ski Team soon after to pursue a career in marketing.
